Gasoline and diesel prices will also be capped over the same period.The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), a common vehicle fuel in this Central Asian country, doubled when the cap was lifted this week.This happened after protesters took to the streets in Almaty, the largest city in the western part of Mangistau. The protests were initially sparked by high fuel prices, which cause emergency in Kazakhstan, but quickly expanded to include other political complaints.Kazakhstan is described as an authoritarian country where the ruling party wins most elections with nearly 100% of the vote. There is no effective political opposition.
