A rack and pinion are a type of linear actuator that converts rotational motion into linear motion, or vice versa. It consists of two main components:

Pinion (Gear):

A circular gear that engages the teeth of the rack

Rotating the pinion moves the rack in a straight line

Rack (Linear Gear):

A straight bar with gear teeth that mesh with the pinion

Moves linearly as the pinion turns
