Pot Broaching Steelmans Broaches
valid until: 23 Oct 2026date published: 23 Oct 2025Pot broaching is an external broaching method where the cutting tools are contained within a stationary holder, often referred to as a 'pot' or a 'ring broach'. The cylindrical workpiece is then pushed or pulled through the center of this pot, and the cutting tools progressively shape the entire outside diameter of the part simultaneously. Pot broaching is a highly specialized and extremely efficient machining process used to create multiple external features on a cylindrical part in a single, high-speed pass. Often regarded as the inverse of traditional internal broaching, it is a key manufacturing technique for achieving high precision and excellent surface finish, particularly in the production of automotive components.
