Hey, I'm David D. Gariepy - most people just call me Dave or the Canadian who somehow ended up responsible for half of Norway's online casino traffic.
I grew up in Montréal, Québec, where the winters are nine months long and the only logical coping mechanisms are hockey, poutine, and learning to code so you never have to go outside. By age 14 I was running game servers out of my bedroom and accidentally DDoSing the neighbourhood ISP when too many friends logged in at once. Classic Canadian origin story.
I did my Bachelor’s in Software Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal, then spent a few years in the Toronto fintech scene building high-frequency trading systems and learning that nothing quite matches the adrenaline of pushing code that moves millions of dollars per second — except maybe pushing code that has to survive 50,000 Norwegians hammering “innskudd” buttons the minute a new Norsk Tipping competitor drops a fat welcome bonus.
In 2022, I went fully remote, grew a quarantine beard that never quite left, and joined the team behind Casino-Norge.net. We're the brutally honest, Norwegian-language review and bonus site that actually tells you whether a casino's verification process takes longer than a ferry from Bergen to Stavanger. My official title is Lead Systems & DevOps Engineer, which in practice means I keep the lights on when the entire west coast decides to chase a 500 % bonus at the same time.
The current battlefield consists of Rust microservices talking to a PostgreSQL cluster in Oslo, Redis streams for live bonus updates, a small fleet of headless browsers scraping every licensed operator twice an hour, and enough Cloudflare rules to make even their support team nervous. I basically live in Prometheus alerts, celebrating like I've won an Olympic medal when our median page load drops below 400 ms on a 4G connection from Tromsø.
When not rate-limiting Swedish IP ranges or arguing with payment providers about why Norwegians should be able to deposit with Vipps in 2025, you can find me cross-country skiing in the Gatineau hills when I'm home, brewing aggressively hoppy IPAs, or losing at low-stakes online blackjack — strictly for competitor analysis, of course.
Current obsessions: mechanical keyboards with stupidly tall keycaps, perfecting smoked salmon gravlax with aquavit instead of vodka, and trying to convince the team that we should move the entire stack to NixOS just to watch the world burn in the most reproducible way possible.
